Hair ... Most of us have it, and most of us are at least occasionally annoyed by it. Luckily, there are a myriad of products, tips and tricks to tame unruly, dull or dry locks. Unluckily, however, they can be expensive or noxious, so why not try some natural, at-home DIY tricks, instead?
1. Eggs aren't just for breakfast.
Crack an egg and whisk away, then slather it on your mane. Repeat every couple of weeks for shiny, clean hair.
2. Olive oil and honey are the secrets to growth.
One alternative to a plain egg is an egg white mixed with one teaspoon of olive oil and one teaspoon of honey. Apply it to your hair, leave it for 20 to 25 minutes and then rinse in cold water.
3. Red wine is the key to shine.
Shampoo and condition as normal, then follow it up with a nice, hearty dousing of red wine. Make sure to rinse well, though!
4. Beer isn't bad, either.
Just like with red wine, a beer over the hair will add some much-needed shine to your mane. After you've washed, pour a warm beer all over your locks and let it sit before rinsing with cool water.
5. As Missy Elliot (kind of) said, put it down, flip it and reverse it.
Most people have been washing their hair the same way for a long time, so they think they've got the process down pat, right? Wrong! Instead of applying shampoo first, rinsing and then switching to conditioner, slather on conditioner, let it set for a few minutes and then put the shampoo right on top.
6. Take the olive oil from the kitchen to the shower.
Only from the ears down, cover your hair with olive oil and cover with plastic wrap. Let it sit for an hour and then rinse for added shine.
7. Put a coat of mayonnaise on top.
Mayo: either you love it or you hate it. Even if you hate it, pick some up at the store and put it on your hair. The white substance with help protect hair from sun damage and breakage, as well as moisturize.
8. Say bye-bye to static with a laundry supply.
Grab a dryer sheet and rub from the roots to the end to combat static and frizz.
9. Onions might make you cry, but what they do to your hair will make you smile.
The sulphur found in onions can help boost collagen production in your hair, so just juice one of the veggies and apply it to your scalp for 15 minutes before rinsing.
10. Use an avocado as a mask.
Avocados go brown too quickly to be used as leftovers, so next time you want to eat just one-half of the delicious fruit, use the other half for your hair. Mix it with some olive oil and lemon juice and apply liberally.
11. Aspirin will get rid of a headache and more.
Crush up two aspirin and apply it with your shampoo next time you're in the shower. Leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing as usual to get rid of dandruff.
12. If you've got brown hair, grab the cocoa and run to the bathroom.
Mix the chocolate powder with yogurt and honey for a color-boosting cream.
13. Add some bananas to your haircare regimen.
Mash up a banana, cover your hair and sit for a half-hour. Wash and rinse thoroughly to reveal newly moisturized hair.
