2 Japanese Artists Make Puppetry Cool Again In An Epic Music Video

Jul 12, 2015 By Mary Madsen
Most music videos today are over-the-top productions, with lavish sets and effects. Japanese musician Sasanomaly, however, knew he wanted something entirely different. To accomplish a video that was artistic as his music, he turned to Atsushi Makino.

Born in Japan, Makino was interested in art from a young age. At the age of 24, he relocated to study film and television graphics at Academy of Arts, Architecture & Design in Prague (UMPRUM). During this time, he focused especially on puppetry and animation. After graduating, he returned to Japan and started a course in animation at Tokyo University of the Arts. Professionally, he has continued his work in hand-drawn animation in a variety of media, particularly music videos.
