A Closer Look At The Tunnel El Chapo Used To Escape Prison

Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera, or most commonly as "El Chapo," has been appearing in newsrooms across the country. The notorious Mexican drug lord leading the Sinaloa Cartel was caught in 1993 and sentenced to 20 years behind bars for murder and drug trafficking. He later bribed prison guards to turn a blind eye while he made his escape to freedom in 2001.

After his lucky attempt to escape prison the first time, thirteen years later, Chapo was found in Mazatlán, Sinaloa. He was taken into custody and thrown back into jail. Recently, on July 11th, 2015, the drug lord planned for his second escape. This time, it was a lot more thought out. Here is a close look at his extensive escape strategy.
