One of the most pervasive stereotypes about the elderly is that they are notoriously slow drivers. When one police officer clocked a car full of older women going at a mere 22 miles per hour on a fairly busy highway, he had no choice but pull them over. Driving TOO slowly can be just as dangerous as speeding, so he though he’d give the ladies a little friendly warning.
That was until he heard real reason why they were going so slow.
After registering a sluggish 22 m.p.h. on the radar gun, the old ladies were pulled over by a highway patrolman. As he approached the vehicle he saw there were two ladies up front and three in the back.
All of the women seemed visibly shaken, except the driver, who asked the officer what was wrong and said “Officer, I don’t understand. I was going exactly the speed limit!” The policeman took the time to explain that driving too far under the limit can also be dangerous.
The old lady seemed baffled and said “Under the speed limit? I was doing exactly the limit!” before pointing to a road sign. That’s when the officer realized the mistake. “That’s route 22!,” he replied “Not 22 miles per hour!” The little old lady was a bit embarassed, but thanked the officer for telling her.
Before he let them go their way, however, the officer couldn’t help but be concerned about the other women in the care. He asked “Ma’am is everyone in this car alright? They look quite shaken and haven’t spoken a word.” That’s when the little old lady driving smiled and said, “Oh they’ll be alright. We just got off of route 119.”
Thankfully, they never made it to I-485!
