A "Grateful American" Gives Disabled Veteran A Riding Mower

Things can be tough for veterans returning home after active duty. A lot of them come back with injuries, either physical or mental, and receiving the sort of care they need can be difficult. Regardless of how you feel about our military involvement overseas, I think we can all agree that the brave people serving in our armed forces deserve all the help and respect they can get when they return home. For Christopher Garrett, his return back to the states was challenging. After suffering an injury that shattered his pelvis, he began the long road to recovery. Luckily, he was able to relearn how to walk and began his life again with his wife and son at home. He now walks with a pronounced limp, but that doesn’t stop him from helping out around the house and living a normal life.

Some of these physical tasks were painful for Christopher, including mowing the lawn. Equipped with just a standard push mower, the veteran still cut the grass even though it wasn’t easy for him. One day, his wife, Brittany, was getting ready and saw her husband with tears in his eyes. Brittany feared for the worst and ran to comfort Christopher, but, when she did, she discovered they were tears of joy! Mowing the lawn isn’t fun for anybody but it was especially difficult for Christopher. But luckily for the Garretts, one kind neighbor had observed his troubles and decided to take matters into their own hands. This kind gesture had moved Christopher to tears!

Despite Christopher’s injury in the war, the Garretts are still your typical happy family.

But when Christopher found this note, things got a little easier for the recovering veteran.

That’s right! Some kind Samaritan had purchased the Garretts a brand new riding mower!

This device would make it so much easier for Christopher to complete the difficult task. Then, he could spend the time he saved with his wife and child.

Moved by the gesture, Christopher wrote on Facebook, “The war that I have seen has hardened my perception of society, but, after today, I truly understand that everyone has their place to be a hero.” You can see the joy on Brittany and her son’s faces that someone would do something so nice for their husband, father, and hero!
