A Great Dane Gave Birth To A Litter Of 19 Adorable Puppies

If you love puppies, this might be the best way to ring in the new year yet. Recently, a Great Dane in Alabama gave birth to a litter of puppies that has tied the record for the largest litter of Great Danes ever. The incredible story is quickly gaining popularity online because not only is this litter record-setting, they’re also just so gosh-darn cute.

On December 5, 2015, 4-year-old Velma gave birth to an astounding litter of 19 puppies. This officially ties the record for largest known Great Dane litter in the United States.

Most Great Dane litters are about 8-10 pups, so Velma's owners, Terri and Josh, were stunned when Velma just kept on giving birth. The entire process took 19 hours, roughly one hour per pup.

Here's a shot of all 19 brothers and sisters, who are all doing well and are quickly growing into their own unique personalities.

Great Danes are known for their size and these puppies are growing fast. Despite her best efforts, Velma simply can't nurse all the puppies at once. Terri and Josh help supplement the feeding with goat's milk and Esbilac formula every 3-4 hours. Currently, the pups are getting a 50/50 split between mother's milk and formula.
