An Old-Time Tool Challenges Its More Modern Counterpart In This Scythe Vs. Weedwacker Showdown

Apr 21, 2015 By Christi Mulligan
There is a race held at the Annual Green Fair and South West Scythe Festival in Somerset, United Kingdom each summer. The race is between a machine and a man. The machine is a three-tine brushcutter (handled by an experienced agricultural worker) and the man is the British Scythe Champion.

A scythe is a tool used for cutting crops like grass or wheat. It has a long, curved blade at the end of a long pole and usually has one or two handles. The video features Simon Damant who won the event six years in a row, from 2006 to 2012. In 2013, Damant placed second before tying for first in 2014. This June will be the next championship.
