Browning apples are a common food annoyance. They're still pretty tasty, but look less than appetizing. While this easy trick works with apples, pears and even potatoes, there are other foods with lifespans many people would like to extend. Speckled, brown bananas are great to use in banana bread, but if you don't like to eat them this way, try using plastic wrap. By covering the stems, the release of ethylene gas is slowed down, lengthening the ripening process. A nice leafy salad can be light and refreshing, but one made with wilted greens doesn't fit that bill. To revive them to their previously crispy state, soak them in ice water. Through osmosis, the water travels into the dehydrated cells and reinvigorates them.
