A million dollars is definitely a lot of money and most people would think long and hard about where it would be best spend. It seems, though, that not everyone has a charitable thought in mind.
It probably isn't a surprise though to anyone who saw the report released in 2014 by the Chronicle of Philanthropy that tracked the charitable giving of Americans. After the economic downturn in recent years, wealthy Americans gave nearly 5 percent less to charity in 2012. Low and middle income Americans, however, increased their donations by about 5 percent in the same time period. Perhaps most shockingly, those who made less than $25,000 a year upped their giving by a whopping 17 percent.
