Feb 25, 2015
68-year-old Allen Zderad of Minnesota has not seen his wife in 10 years. Working as a chemist, Zderad began losing his eyesight about 20 years ago from an incurable degenerative eye disease. He was officially declared blind about 10 years later.

The Mayo Clinic reached out to Zderad to help him gain his sight back. They gave him a bionic eye, which would allow him to see his wife of 45 years, Carmen, for the first time in a decade. Zderad is the 15th person in the United States to receive this device and the first in his state.
