Lovebirds are a small species of parrot, known for being both affectionate and social. Their name comes from their monogamous bonding for long periods of time. They can be found in a variety of colors. Typically, lovebirds weigh from 40 to 60 grams and measure 13 to 17 centimeters long. They have large beaks in comparison to their size, which is characterized by their stockier builds.
Some lovebird species are kept as pets. Many of these birds develop long-term relationships with their human companions. They will often preen and snuggle with their favorite humans. This bird, named Benjamin, clearly enjoys flying to and from one of his human companions after his splayed leg condition heals.
