BMW's New Technology Could Save Millions Of Lives

Apr 8, 2015
According to the U.S. Census Bureau and the National Safety Council, of the over 10 million motor vehicle accidents that occur in the United States every year, between 11 and 13 thousand of these accidents involve stationary objects and are fatal. While this may not seem like a large percentage of all accidents, this number is higher than that of pedestrian deaths from motor vehicle collision.

The folks over at BMW have decided to acknowledge the risks of driving a car, even when other moving objects are not in play. The company has developed a safety system that aims to allow a moving vehicle to sense and prevent collisions with stationary objects. Bloomberg Television's Sam Grobart met up with BMW's Moritz Werling to discuss the new technology and take it for a test drive.
