Boat Owner Starts His Morning By Finding A Baby Sea Lion As His New Bunk-Buddy

Michael Duffy is the owner of a 41-foot Kettenburg boat, docked at the San Diego Yacht Club. Recently, he awoke from spending a night on the boat to find he had a rather unexpected bunk-buddy - a baby sea lion who decided to crash for the night. The 48-year-old seaman said he was woken up by a snoring sound at around 2:30 a.m. but didn't see anything and thought maybe it was a friend sleeping off a night out on the town. A few hours later, he was again woken up by a snoring sound as well as a sneeze. Getting up to investigate, he found this pup curled up in the adjacent bunk.

As can be seen in the video, the poor little guy was pretty sleepy and not really in a mood to leave just yet, but he was also very docile. Duffy says there was a yellow tag on one of its fins (which can be seen if you look closely), so it was probably rescued and released and was therefore probably pretty used to humans. Although they look adorable, sea lions are still wild animals, and Duff says he would not have approached an adult the same way.
