Building A Deck Out Of Recycled Wooden Pallets

Even though we're getting into the colder months, it's never too early to start thinking about next Summer. Decks and patios are great spaces for entertaining guests or having a nice meal outside with your family. Not every house has a patio, but that doesn't mean you can't create your own awesome outdoor space at a very low cost. Did you know that you can get wooden pallets for free from many big stores? These hidden gems of the DIY world are the perfect material for crafting a beautiful patio. That's not to say that you won't have to put in your fair share of elbow grease, but when you see the finished product, it's worth it.

This particular project calls for 43 pallets that have been sanded until smooth. This also cleans them by removing any dirt from the surface. From there, you can lay down a coat of primer, then paint them whatever color you'd like your patio to be.

Before you start building, it'd be smart to lay down a large piece of geotextile fabric to act as the base and prevent weeds from growing through the gaps in the pallets.

Next, you form walls and benches by stacking the pallets on top of each other, stabilizing them with wire and steel rods.

Just look at the result! Who wouldn’t want to hang out here?
