Mayor Peter Nystrom from Norwich, Connecticut was in the middle of campaigning for re-election. He was doing the usual campaign hustle; interviews, shaking hands, kissing babies, etc. But then Peter came across a shocking sight. He found a cat with an arrow going through its body.
The cat was miraculously still alive and Peter quickly called animal control. The cat, named Elliot, was taken to All Friends Animal Hospital for treatment. The vets there successfully removed the arrow. Thankfully, the projectile hadn't hit any major blood vessels or organs, so it was essentially a flesh wound that needed to be stitched and kept from becoming infected. When Elliot's owners were contacted, they weren't able to cover the costs of surgery, so Mayor Peter Nystrom did something amazing. He picked up the tab.
