Close-Up Footage Shows What It's Really Like In A Hail Storm

An intense hail storm swept through the town of Gatlinburg, Tennessee recently and many, like YouTube user irishgurrier, were on hand to see the damaging effects. According to meteorologists, the hail falling in this video measured in at approximately 1.5 inches in diameter, which is about the size of a golf ball. While that size is typically not large enough to cause too much harm, what made this storm remarkable is the sheer volume of hail that fell from the sky. In some parts of the city, close to 6 inches of hail covered the ground. Summer weather does not get much worse than that.

Fortunately for the residents of Gatlinburg, the storm did not cause much lasting damage and summer activities were able to quickly resume.
