Each year, as most of the country enjoys spending time with friends and family, eating tasty treats and partaking in other forms of holiday activities and cheer, there are those who aren't so lucky. Instead of having fun out and about, they're stuck in a hospital, sometimes too sick to even leave their small room. Like the little girl in this story already knows, it's truly in the spirit of the holiday season to spread cheer; the next step is to figure out how to do it.
If there is a children's hospital nearby, consider donating toys to be distributed amongst the kids. Donations at any hospital won't go amiss, either; nor will gifts for the families of patients, such as hospital parking passes or gift cards for nearby hotels, restaurants or gas stations. If money is tight, you can still brighten the days of patients by sending a card. The charity Cards for Hospitalized Kids has sent over 80,000 cards on behalf of well-wishers since its founding.
