Sarah is a mother of two young kids who, until very recently, was totally deaf. She was born with a condition that prevented hairs from forming in her middle ears.
In the video, Ellen interviews Sarah just over a week after she received her first hearing device. The device and procedure to install it cost $30,000 per ear, but it let Sarah hear things the first time in over three decades.
The procedure was so expensive that she was only able to get the implant in one of her ears. In order to afford it, Sarah’s mother-in-law, Lari, did something amazing - she cashed in her retirement savings.
Ellen was just in love with how selfless Lari is. She also has a special surprise for them after she teams up with the company that provided the first implant.
