Originating from India, yoga has become one of the most popular recreational activities in North America. Part of the reason for its popularity is the incredible effect it can have on one's mood, as well as the numerous documented physical benefits. Without being particularly taxing on the body, yoga has been shown to help improve flexibility, strength, balance, posture, increased circulation, cartilage degeneration and reduced blood pressure.
If you decide to give yoga a shot, don't expect to do anything astonishing anytime soon. Like most things, it takes years of practice to even develop some of the more basic skills and moves. For some, however, yoga is something that seems to come naturally.
