If there are three items that every household needs, it’s coconut oil, vinegar and Vaseline. While coconut oil is great for cooking, relieving dry skin and even straightening hair, vinegar can be used to unclog drains, clean up tough messes and kill bacteria. And Vaseline? Well, its uses go beyond moisturizing chapped lips or hands.
Although Vaseline is a brand name of petroleum jelly, and certainly not the only one in existence, its popularity has turned it into a household name. However, it wasn’t always so common. Oil rig workers were the first to discover the material building up around their machines in 1859, and soon noticed that it quickened the healing time of minor cuts and burns. By 1870, a chemist had refined it and opened his first factory under the name “Vaseline.” No doubt, he made a lot of money! As you’ll see in this video, it’s just as handy today as it was nearly 150 years ago.
