Family court appearances are just a part of life for kids placed in the foster care system. Many of them are placed back-and-forth between various families, often until they're old enough to be considered adults. Haven Dockins is a 16-year-old girl who had been in that system for 10 long years and was all too familiar with the ins and outs of family court, having been there any times in the company of attorneys, representatives from Child Protective Services and various foster parents.
This visit to family court seemed like any other, but when Haven learned the true nature of her visit, she was overjoyed - her foster parents were officially adopting her! Being adopted by this loving family was the only thing she'd wanted for Christmas, and when Judge Rod Paasch officially signed off on the necessary paperwork, she proudly exclaimed that this is the best Christmas she'd ever had. Haven now joins her 11 brothers and sisters, five of whom are also adopted, and her two very loving parents as an official member of the family.
