German Soccer Fans Might Just Be The Best In The World
Feb 24, 2015
The scene: VfB Stuttgart is playing Borussia Dortmund (BVB) in a regular season match in the Bundesliga, the professional football league in Germany. Late in the game, Timo Baumgartl makes a critical error that seals the fate of the game. Baumgartl is an 18-year-old rookie, playing every minute of his pro career for Stuttgart since his debut on November 8, 2014.
Baumgartl was clearly distraught after the game. The reaction of the Stuttgart fans was unexpected. German fans are known for being kinder than their rougher English counterparts, but this is a new level, even for them.
European football leagues are known for their die-hard and sometimes violent fans. Last week, a loss in Germany caused a different type of reaction.
