Being in high school is no joke these days. I don't know how or why, but it really seems like growing up has gotten so much tougher in ways that I never really had to consider when I was a kid. Bullying has become such a rampant problem in society and it's caused so many young people to feel like they aren't good enough. A few have tragically even been pushed to the point of suicide.
I'm not sure what makes kids be so deliberately hurtful to each other, but that's what happened to Whitney Kropp, a student at Owega High School in West Branch, Michigan. Some of her classmates decided to nominate her for homecoming queen, which she was elated about until she learned the truth - the nomination was a prank by the "popular" kids.
The sophomore was utterly dismayed and says she even thought about suicide. Thankfully, when the local community and other students heard about the cruel prank, they banded together to turn the tables on the bullies by legitimately making Whitney the homecoming queen! Local businesses provided a makeover, clothes and even a limo for her big night. They say living well is the best revenge, which Whitney clearly got.
