A man giving a 1,400 pound bear a back rub might look crazy to us, but at the Orphaned Wildlife Center in Otisville, New York? It’s just another day in the life. Jim Kowalczik has been caring for the bear in this video, Jimbo, since he first came to the sanctuary 20 years ago.
Unfortunately, Jimbo had been bred in captivity and despite the best efforts of staff, simply did not have the skills to survive in the wild. Instead, he looked to Jim to be his caretaker, friend and playmate.
Jimbo is not the only bear at the center, however. Among the 10 others, there are several that are Kodiaks like him, as well as black bears and Syrian brown bears. Most weigh in between 300 – 500 pounds, making Jimbo the largest by far. From the looks of this video, he might also be the sweetest.
