No one is quite sure how Grand Cayman's Stingray City came into existence, but it is a popular destination for tourists from around the world. The best guess is that the creatures learned to stay in this area to get a free meal from fisherman who cleaned their fish there before they brought them in to sell. The fishing boats have now been replaced by tour boats full of passengers hoping for a chance to see the rays up close. In fact, the stingrays now associate the sound of boat motors with food, so they will faithfully appear when a boat shows up. One of the best things about Stingray City is that you can stand in only three feet of water and actually pet and feed its inhabitants. Don't forget to add this to your bucket list.
