How Researchers Fooled A Man Into Thinking A Fake Hand Was His Own

Aug 19, 2015 By Sarah Brennan
The human mind is anything but simple. The sheer complexity can sometimes be hard to fathom. Researchers at the University of Freiburg prove just how sensitive our brains can be with a seemingly straightforward test, called the "Fake Hand Experiment."

There is a fine line between what we perceive with our eyes and what is actually happening. We as humans love to rationalize everything. Our thinking process determines that there is always an answer to every question, no matter how absurd it may be. The staff from the University of Freiburg prove this by placing a fake hand in front of their subject. A divide is created to cut off all vision from his real hand. What happens next throws the participant off guard for one very fascinating reason. Science can be seriously incredible.
