I like to think that I'm a fairly clean guy. Sure, I may not always put my socks away immediately, or sometimes wait until the morning to do dishes, but for the most part, I like to think I keep my home clean, tidy and germ-free. Even though we'd rather be sleeping in, my wife and I do the week's laundry religiously every Sunday morning. It's not what I'd like to do but as an adult, this becomes your reality. But in all the Sunday afternoons that I spent folding and putting away our crisp, clean laundry, I never stopped to consider a simple, but very important question: who washes the washer?
I know I'm going to probably sound pretty silly right now to some of you wiser, more knowledgeable folks out there, but I honestly just thought that since there's all that soap and water going through the machine, it's probably cleaning itself. I mean, it's not like you wash your soap, right? When I stopped to think though, I realized the last water to go through there in every cycle is soaked in the filth that was once on my clothes. Clearly, washers need to be cleaned. Dryers do too, but in a different way and for different reasons.
Thankfully, Melissa Maker and the Clean My Space YouTube channel are here to save the day with this video on quick and easy ways to clean and maintain your washer and dryer. All it takes are a few simple household items. For the washing machine, Melissa recommends adding some essential oils to your cleaning solution. Although they're optional, I will personally say essential oils are amazing and they smell great too! For the dryer, you're going to be thoroughly cleaning out all the areas that lint can get trapped so that your machine runs hotter, safer and more energy efficient.
