How To Make Mac And Cheese In A Slow Cooker

Mac and cheese is one of those universal meals that everyone enjoys. It's like the water of food. I'm not sure a week has gone by where I haven't had mac and cheese at least once, and it always tastes just as good. In the world of mac and cheese, though, homemade is always better than store-bought. Nothing was more exciting than seeing my mom pull out her baked mac and cheese from the oven, and smelling the cheesy aroma that would fill the house.

There are a million ways to make mac and cheese, but the blog CookingWithYadi recently shared a method you may have never thought of before. What makes this recipe so special? It involves throwing the macaroni in a slow cooker and letting it cook for four hours. It's not the conventional way to make the classic dish, but once you see the finished product, you'll never want to eat it any other way. Here is what you'll need:

  • 16 ounces macaroni pasta
  • 16 ounces Monterrey Jack cheese, cubed
  • 16 ounces Colby cheese, cubed
  • 16 ounces Velveeta, cubed
  • 1 stick of butter, cut into slices
  • 16 ounces milk

Keep reading to see exactly what steps are involved in making this slow-cooked mac and cheese and how you can do it for yourself.

Start by cooking the macaroni on the stove like normal, drain it, and pour about half of the noodles into your slow cooker.

Why only half? Because this mac and cheese is layered. After pouring in half of the noodles, lay down half of the cubed cheese, milk, and butter.

Then, repeat the process with another layer of macaroni and a final layer of cheese and butter. This recipe uses cheddar jack cheese, Colby cheese, and Velveeta, but you can use whatever kind of cheese you want.

Once the top layer of cheese and butter is applied, put on the lid and let it cook on low for two hours.

After two hours, lift the lid and give it a good stir. Place the lid back on and let it sit for another two hours, or until everything is thoroughly melted.

Once it's all done, the mac and cheese is worth the wait. Just look at how yummy that is.
