I hate trying to prep my food with a dull knife. If the mug trick shown here isn't your style, there are a few other ways to get your blades razor sharp. Before using any method of sharpening, determine the angle at which your knife is already sharpened. While you can use a different angle, it is significantly more time consuming. If you don't know the current angle, ask the manufacturer or seek out a knowledgeable knife shop near you to determine the correct angle. A diamond stone or whetstone are simple tools that will get the job done. Make sure to lubricate with a mineral oil before using. A honing rod is also useful, and they are often included in your knife set. Make sure to hold the knife in your dominant hand when using the rod.
