Whale Watchers Capture Footage Of A Humpback Whale Breaching Onto A Kayak
Two British kayakers had a rather harrowing experience when they were paddling around Monterey Bay in California recently. A large humpback whale breached out of the water and landed directly on top of their kayak, dragging them underwater and giving everyone a good scare.
The two kayakers, Tom Mustill and Charlotte Kinloch, said in interviews that it felt as though a school bus was landing on top of them. The comparison seems appropriate, as the whale is estimated to weigh around 80,000 pounds. Fortunately, and seemingly miraculously, they were uninjured. Their wetsuits and life jackets provided just enough flotation to pull them safely back up to the surface of the water, and they paddled back to shore in complete disbelief.
