There are three types of elephants alive today. These are the African Woodland, the Asian, and the African elephant. Of all three, the Asian elephant is the smallest. The biggest elephants are the African ones. A good trick (besides size) of telling the two apart is the shape of the ears. African elephants have ears shaped like Africa, while Asian elephants have ears shaped like India. Elephant herds are composed of about ten elephants that are a mixture of females and males. The elephant in charge is usually the most experienced/senior female. Occasionally, however, elephants wander off on their own. That's what this African elephant did at Elephant Sands Park in Botswana, and certainly gave these tourists an unforgettable experience.
