This amazing, spinning, animated cake looks like a complete one-of-a-kind. Funnily enough, it isn't. Known as 'zoetrope cakes', these confections are based on an animation device used before film. Zoetropes are made of a cylinder with slits cut in the sides, with a sequence of drawings put inside. When the cylinder spins, the sequence of drawings takes on the appearance of motion; the effect is that the viewer sees a short "movie", similar to a flip book. An artist named Alexandre Dubosc specializes in making these baked creations. He has made all kinds of these cakes, including one inspired by the art and films of Tim Burton, the famed director behind "Edward Scissorhands" and "A Nightmare Before Christmas".
