What's not to love about caterpillars? They're cute, they're fuzzy, they're very, VERY hungry. I remember–way back when I was a kid and no, I'm not giving you a year here–catching caterpillars and keeping them in jars with leaves and a twig and trying to get them to make a cocoon. Little did I know that I was flirting with danger all those years ago. I could have accidentally tried to grab what's known as an asp caterpillar. These guys are super venomous and while they spend most of their lives living high up in the trees, it's still a good idea to learn to identify them, especially if you live in the American southeast where they thrive. Sometimes, it's better just to enjoy something cute from afar.
