It Took One Man Over 30 Years To Build This Castle, But It's The Materials That Blew Me Away

Donald “Cano” Epinoza has been working on his house for over 30 years. It might sound like a futile project, but hey, building a castle from the ground up is a big job for any man – especially when he’s dedicated himself to building the entire thing out of scrap metal and aluminum cans.

Cano has spent decades hammering and overlaying any metal he can find, including hubcaps, wire, bicycle reflectors, and of course, cans. While he searches junk yards often, his house has become known as a spot people can drop off things they don’t want. After seeing what he’s created, we finally understood the saying “one man trash is another man’s treasure.” Just take a look.

Cano’s castle was built from trash, but he clearly planned a very special order to it. Check out those 40-foot towers!

In fact, seeing the detail up close, it’s hard to believe that more people don’t build homes using recycled materials. It’s sturdy, and definitely more unique than the majority of homes on the market.

The castle causes many to slow down and take a closer look, but Cano doesn’t mind. He says the visitors are the motivation he needs to keep building. If you catch him at the right time, he’ll even give you a personal tour.

There’s no denying that when the light hits it the right way, it really is a thing of beauty. Keep building Cano! We can’t wait to see what you do next.
