Local Police Department Works With The Community To Help The Homeless

If there is a good working relationship established between the police and community members, it is very likely that there would be a drop in certain types of crime. Some people in the community are usually aware of who commits most of the crimes, but a relationship must be built with the police before trust can be established. New York City began utilizing this system in 1990, and crime went down in every index category, compared to the previous year. This was the first time this had occurred in 40 years.
The Houston Police Department has a long, tumultuous history with the minority community in the city. The solution was to implement community-oriented policing. This is a strategy that focuses on the police building relationships and working closely with members of the community to systematically use problem-solving techniques and partnerships to proactively manage the environment.
