Did you or your kids ever play with Shrinky Dinks? Unlike many toys from 1980s, the thin, flexible paper is still around. All you have to do is cut it into any shape you want, bake it and ta-da! You have a brand-new trinket. Seriously, after all those years of making Christmas ornaments and other crafts, we should have thought of re-creating what we love most – our dogs.
It only takes 4 easy steps, but with some Shrinky Dink paper and spray paint, you can make a fabulous piece of jewelry that will have everyone asking, “Where on earth did you get that?”
1. First, trace a photo of your dog onto some Shrinky Dink paper. Since you’ll only be using the outline, make sure to pick one with a good silhouette. It should be about three times the size of your desired end product.
Shrinky Dink paper can be purchased at most craft stores or on Amazon.
2. Next, cut out your silhouette and place it in the oven at 350ºF for one to three minutes.
This is where the magic happens! The heat will cause your creation to harden and shrink to 1/3 its original size.
3. After it cools, coat it with a few layers of spray paint.
Gold is a great option, as it makes the charm look far more expensive than it really is.
4. Attach a metal ring and slide your new charm onto a chain.
It doesn’t get any cuter than this!
