There's nothing quite like a dog to keep you on your toes. Back in my college days, I lived alone with my cat. Sure, he knocked over a water glass from time to time, but trusty old Jack was never much trouble. In fact, I'd say he was the best roommate I've ever had! Now, I have two dogs and, well … it's a different story altogether.
I knew before I adopted my two dogs that they would be a big financial responsibility. Vet visits, food, leashes, collars – I expected these types of expenses, but no one warned me how much the destruction would cost. Blankets, shoes, underwear, pillows, and (I'm ashamed to admit) several books were shredded while they were going through the puppy phase. Amazingly, they even managed to shred the carpet in an entire room, rip out a light socket, and chew a hole the size of a soda can through my front porch. They are loved dogs, with plenty of attention, treats, and toys, but sometimes instinct gets the best of them.
Another big expense was the fence we installed last summer. With a small yard, I figured it would be a quick project, but over the past several months, we've had to make many adjustments as the dogs have found new ways to escape. At least now that I've seen this video from YouTuber Joe Ballew, I know I'm not alone! On March 13, he had just completed building a fence to keep his dog, Stella, in the yard, and was so proud that he decided to take a quick video. In less than 20 seconds, however, Stella makes a complete mockery of his hard work. Thanks for the laugh Joe, and just so you know, I feel your pain.
