For all the imagery with which we’re indundated over the holidays, you’d think that it was a time where suddenly everyone’s family was all together, happy as can be, singing around a fireplace. But the fact is, the holidays can be a tough time for many families, especially those with husbands, wives, sons or daughters serving in the military. Whether they’re overseas or simply stationed at military base in another state, these men and women must put duty before all else, which often means Christmas and other holidays far away from their loved ones.

With a little help from his sister, who contacted the local news station WXYZ in Detroit, Shane was able to give his family the biggest, happiest Christmas surprise of all.
