Martial Arts Dojo Teaches Cancer-Stricken Kids More Than Fight Moves
Mar 1, 2015
In the year 2000, a controlled study had 90 cancer patients practice mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) meditation over seven weeks. The meditation group was found to have 31% lower stress symptoms and 67% less mood disturbance than patients who did not meditate.
Although there is no scientific evidence specifically linking meditation with improved cancer symptoms, many survivors will tell you that mental attitude is instrumental in winning the fight. Lower stress levels can help patients focus on recovering.
After losing his daughter to cancer, Rabbi Elimelech Goldberg took a unique approach to helping other kids going through the same fight. His "Kids Kicking Cancer" program empowers children through martial arts training and meditation.
