Melanoma Patient’s Last Wish Is That No One Uses Tanning Beds

Many people look forward to summer for the warm weather and abundance of sunlight. Being able to enjoy more time outdoors under the brilliant rays of the sun means that you get to flaunt a gorgeous tan for the next few months. Tans are so sought after, in fact, that many individuals turn to artificial means when they can't achieve the perfect tan on their own.

What began as an occasional treat to achieve sun-kissed skin turned into a full-blown addiction for Ashley Trenner. By the time that Ashley was in her 20s, her mom was pleading with her to lay off the tanning beds. But Ashley's obsession with those tanning devices lasted for 15 years and, at age 33, she was diagnosed with melanoma. In November 2009, her melanoma became terminal.

Even though she knew she was nearing the end of her life, she was hopeful about preventing others from meeting the same demise. "If there's one person's life I can affect, that's a beautiful gift that I can give to somebody," she said.
