Pigs aren’t quite as simple as dogs to keep as pets, but they’re increasingly popular in the house. They are one the more intelligent domesticated animals and in many ways they’ve actually got an edge over dogs and cats. They’re hypoallergenic and they don’t get fleas, for example. Still, while owning a pig might seem like it’s all fun and games, owning a pig comes with a lot of responsibility. While dogs and cats are natural predators, pigs in the wild are actually a prey animal. Their personalities reflect that and they’re far more guarded than ordinary pets and can be difficult to train.
They also require a lot more attention than dogs and especially cats, and without it can become moody and destructive. Still, if you’ve got what it takes as an owner, pigs can make great pets.
