The hardest, most heartbreaking experience any parent can ever have is losing their child. It's a tragedy that no one should have to endure. Sadly, far too many in this world face that reality on a daily basis. Whether it's due to an accident, an illness or any other cause, it never gets any easier. The years can go by, but even the smallest memory or keepsake can instantly bring about a flood of tearful emotions.
In 2013, Heather Clark received some devastating news. Her 7-month-old son Lukas had died while under the supervision of a babysitter. Heather acted quickly and made the decision to donate Lukas' organs, hoping that her son's untimely death could still serve a greater purpose for someone else. Three people in need received organs from Lukas.
One of those recipients was 4-year-old Jordan Gonzalez. Born with a congenital heart defect that kept her hospitalized for a long time, she received Lukas' heart. In this powerful video, Heather meets Jordan and her mother, Esther, so that she can hear her son's heart beating inside Jordan. It's the last little bit of her son that Heather has left, and Jordan also presents her with a stuffed teddy bear that has a recording of Lukas' heartbeat on it.
According to the Donate Life website, roughly 14,000 deceased organ donors helped provide nearly 30,000 organ transplants in 2014. Think of how many lives that saved. Sadly, an average of 21 people die everyday because they couldn't get an organ donation in time. It's not like we need them once we're gone, so please, consider becoming an organ donor.
