Have you ever been in a situation where you need to dip your hand in molten lead? Hopefully the answer is no, but if you have then you’d have done well to learn from what the Mythbusters crew discovered in this episode from 2012. The hosts, Adam and Jamie, were determined to bust the Leidenfrost Effect, which claims that steam forms a layer around a hand that would keep it from being burned.
After testing it out on some sausages, the brave pair decided to try it for themselves and were pleasantly surprised with the results. The Leidenfrost Effect was discovered by German scientist Johann Leidenfrost who first explained the phenomenon in 1756 in his book A Tract About Some Qualities Of Common Water.
