Firefighters are rare breed. Men and women who risk their lives every time they put on their uniform. They’re not facing a petty crook, they’re up against an unrelenting force of nature, one that doesn’t know or care that the firefighters are even there. Sometimes, they make the ultimate sacrifice to keep others safe.
When two brave men made that sacrifice recently in Kansas City and were lost in the line of duty, the community gathered to show support every way they could. An incredible memorial service was held for John Mesh and Larry Leggio, but it didn’t stop there. Neighbors turned their porch lights red, to honor the fallen firefighters. Donations are pouring into the families. Businesses throughout the city have gotten in on the act, from mattress stores to T-shirt makers. All giving their proceeds directly to the families. One restaurant has even made up two barstools with plaques for each firefighter, installed permanently. Anyone who dines or drinks in these seats will have their payment sent directly to the two families.
