Statistics show that close to 30% of Americans will be the victims of a robbery at some point in their life. Thanks to a new trend, that likelihood is increased while at a gas station. It’s called “sliding,” criminals sneaking into your car while you are busy pumping gas. It all happens out of sight of the victim who barely has time to turn around before the thief has taken their wallet or any other valuables left in the car.
“Sliding” has been reported in Florida, Texas, Kentucky and many other places in the United States. Though not typically a violent crime, it is important to be aware of the danger. Make sure to keep all of your doors and windows locked while you are pumping gas. Also, keep an eye on anything valuable you leave in the car while you step outside.
