Identical twins are born when a fertilized egg splits at the last moment to create two identical embryos. The resulting children are more than just identical in appearance – they are also identical genetically.
For Veronica Reed of Abilene, Texas, the birth of her children, Hannah Grace and Danielle Lyn, was a miracle for more than just the fact that they are twins. During the course of her pregnancy, it was discovered that Veronica's babies were suffering from a condition known as Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS). The complication is characterized by a disproportionate amount of blood flow between twins, and Veronica's children were not expected to survive. However, not only did they survive, they were also born at a very special moment of the year. As this video explains, just one minute can make all the difference.
