One of the most recognizable ballets of all time, The Nutcracker has remained a holiday classic for well over 100 years. Originally created by Marius Petipa, Lev Ivanov and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, the ballet is actually an adaption of the classic story of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. Marius and Lev were responsible for the performance's choreography, but Pyotr's work on the ballet's musical score is what most people associate with the production.
Of all the music Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky created for the ballet, none was more iconic than "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy." Even today, the song is commonly heard around Christmastime and has been performed by many different artists — like this a capella rendition by Pentatonix.
