Gone but not forgotten. It’s never easy to lose a loved one. Especially when we are kids, it's hard to imagine our parents not being around. Our parents are supposed to be there with us for our first day of school and our last, but, sadly, some of us are not so lucky.
In 2014, Aleena Kondak lost her father when she was just a teenager. A police officer in Tarpon Springs, Florida, Charlie Kondak was killed on duty during what was supposed to be a routine call. The community was devastated by the tragic loss of one of their men in blue. Charlie’s police family has firmly stood by the Kondaks' side ever since, supporting Aleena and her mother, Teresa, through their difficult time.
Two years later, Aleena was prepping for her high school prom. It would be another special family occasion without Charlie. As parents around town would be snapping photos with their kids, Teresa put out a special call to Charlie’s brothers - his fellow police officers. Aleena wasn’t expecting anything special when her bus stopped outside the prom, but what was waiting for her will have you smiling from ear to ear.
