Police Officer Rescues A Dog Who Was Almost Killed By Her Owner

If there's one thing we know about dogs, it's that there are no such things as bad breeds, only bad owners. This story from Ohio is a perfect example of one dog's strength to survive in the face of horrific abuse. Her owner was tired of having her around, so she attempted to kill her by breaking her neck and leaving her in a dumpster. While this might seem pretty dark, we promise the story doesn't end there.

Thankfully, a maintenance worker stumbled upon the dog and alerted police. By some sort of miracle, she was in good health despite everything she'd been through. Police decided to take her to Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital to make sure she was okay and allow her to rest up. Even if the story ended there, it'd still be a nice example of a dog being rescued from awful conditions. But, believe it or not, there's more.

The dog received the name "Honey" after she was rescued, a fitting tribute to her refusal to give up considering honey is the only food that doesn't ever expire. During her time in the hospital, there was one police officer, Chris Santimarino, with whom Honey formed a special bond. The feeling was mutual, and not long after that, Officer Santimarino did something that no one saw coming. Scroll through the images below to learn more about the unique bond between Honey and Officer Santimarino.

This is Honey. She was only a year old when her owner attempted to take her life. Luckily, Honey survived, and can now look forward to a brighter future thanks to one man ...

After she was discovered living in a dumpster, Honey was admitted to the hospital to rest up and get the care she needed.

And that's where she met Officer Chris Santimarino. The two of them felt an instant connection, and what do people do when they feel an immediate connection with a dog?

They adopt! That's right, Officer Santimarino couldn't have been more excited to welcome Honey into his home and finally give her the love that she deserved.

According to Officer Santimarino, Honey smiles, acts silly, and is officially, "part of [their] family."
