While there are plenty of animals out there, such as pigs, dogs and rats that frequently give birth to numerous offspring, several of the better-known farm animals out there are far closer to humans in terms of reproduction. Horses and cows in particular only rarely give birth to more than one baby at a time. Twin calves are rare. Triplets rarer still. Quadruplets? Mama cow should think about playing the lottery. The odds successfully birthing quadruplet calves are 1 in 11 million. That’s actually the same as a human delivering a set of identical quadruplets and every bit as challenging, if not moreso. Amazingly, three calves were born already before a vet arrived on the scene.
